Biden's Approval Near Record Lows Despite Success In Debt Limit Negotiations

US

Progressive pollster, Data for Progress, has released a report suggesting that US voters credit President Biden and Congressional Democrats with passing legislation to suspend the federal debt limit.

  • DfP: “…voters credit Biden and Democrats in Congress for avoiding the default by an +11-point margin over McCarthy and Republicans in Congress. This includes Democratic voters by a +60-point margin and Independent voters by a +11-point margin."
  • "Nearly half of voters credit either President Biden (28 percent) or Democrats in Congress (21 percent) for delivering a successful, bipartisan agreement to raise the federal debt limit, while a smaller portion of voters credit Speaker McCarthy (21 percent) or Republicans in Congress (17 percent).”
  • Data for Progress' findings don't appear to be reflected in the approval rating of President Biden which took a sustained hit during the debt limit negotiations. According to RealClearPolitics, Biden's approval rating is currently tracking at 41.6% with -14% net approval, close to year-long lows for the President.
