Biden Says No "Sticking Points" Left On Potential Border Deal

US

Chad Pegram at Fox News reports on X that President Joe Biden has told reporters that he doesn't believe there are, "any sticking points left," in the ongoing negotiations to overhaul policy at the US-Mexico and secure a vote on Biden's USD$110bln national security supplemental package.

  • Biden's comments suggest that yesterday's high-profile meeting with Congressional leaders, committee leaders, and administration national security and intelligence officials may have moved the dial towards a successful border deal.
  • Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said on the Senate floor a short time ago: "Senate and White House negotiators are getting closer to reaching a bipartisan agreement on a national security supplemental. For the first time, I believe the odds are a little better than fifty percent that we can get something done."
  • Prior to yesterday's meeting Republicans and Democrats were reportedly at odds over reform of presidential authority to grant asylum (parole). A concession on parole is likely to smooth a deal in the Senate, but may not be enough to convince House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to back the bill.
  • Full analysis on yesterday's White House meeting in today's edition of the MNI US Daily Brief.
