US President Joe Biden has signed into law the national security aid package that will provide USD95bn in military aid to Ukraine, Israel and to bolster US allies in the Indo-Pacific. Biden states that "It's a great day for world peace...When our allies are stronger, we are stronger...It will make America and the world safer....Now we need to move fast...Ukraine has the will and the skill to win."
- Biden: "[we] will make sure shipments to Ukraine start right away...In the next few hours, we are going to start sending equipment into Ukraine, for air defense, munitions for artillery rocket systems and armored vehicles....It is directly in the United States' national security interest [that] we stand up against Putin."
- On Israel: "The security of Israel is critical...Aid will help replenish Israel's air defence...This bill significantly increases humanitarian assistance to Gazans...Israel must ensure aid gets to Palestinians in Gaza without delay."
- Notably, Biden laments the lack of inclusion of measures on the southern border, stating "One thing this bill does not do: border security. Just this year, had the strongest border security bill this country has ever seen. It was bipartisan. It should have been included in this bill. And I’m determined to get it done for the American people." Goes on to thank Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for his assistance in getting the supplemental through Congress. The House Republican caucus remains restless following the bill's passage, posing a continued risk to Johnson's position.
