Biden To Continue Attack On 'MAGA' Movement In WH Remarks

11:30 ET 16:30 BST: President Joe Biden will target former President Donald Trump's 'Make America Great Again' movement in remarks at the White House on the administration's plans to fight inflation.

  • The White House says that the remarks will 'contrast his approach with congressional Republicans’ Ultra-MAGA Plan to raise taxes on 75 million American families...'
  • Biden is expected to contrast his plans with an '11-point plan' offered by GOP campaign leader Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) calling for the imposition of federal income taxes on Americans who currently pay none and sunsetting federal programs like Social Security and Medicaid.
  • The Hill quoting a White House official: 'You can expect the president will talk about why that plan might make sense to people with memberships at Mar-a-Lago, but would be devastating for the middle class.'
  • The remarks are the latest in strategic pivot from the Biden administration to directly target Trump's 'MAGA' movement after a year of avoiding mention of Trump. Last week Biden called 'MAGA' the 'most extreme' group in recent US history.
  • Biden's approval rating has strengthened slightly in the past week but according to a recent WAPO poll only 38 percent approve of his handling of the economy.
