Free AccessBiden To Deliver Remarks On Bidenomics In North Carolina
14:15 ET 19:15 GMT: US President Joe Biden will deliver remarks in Raleigh, North Carolina on "Bidenomics" and his "Investing and America" agenda. Livestream
- According to the White House, Biden will announce USD$82 million in new highspeed internet investments. Part of "over $3 billion in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and American Rescue Plan funding."
- The remarks come as Biden faces political vulnerabilities on multiple fronts. Although there were some positive statements after a key White House meeting yesterday, the pathway for legislating new aid to Ukraine and securing a US-Mexico border policy overhaul remains unclear. Full analysis in today's edition of the MNI US Daily Brief.
- A more belligerent Iran, which has recently conducted cross-border military strikes in Syria, Iraq, and Pakistan, is likely to revive Republican criticism of his handling of nuclear negotiations and sanctions.
- Domestically, Biden's approval rating continues to languish near lows for his presidency and he faces a collapse of supportamongst Black voters - a key demographic which helped deliver him the White House in 2020.
- Raleigh has a sizable Black population suggesting that the White House intends to focus efforts on winning back parts of his progressive alliance by touting the local economic benefits of his agenda, rather than relying on data driven assessments of the economy which have failed to resonate with voters.
- Biden's campaign are also reportedly making plans to target North Carolina as a potential Democrat win for the first time since former President Barack Obama won the state by .3% in 2008.
