Biden To Hold Bilats With Netanyahu And Lula At UN General Assembly

UN

US President Joe Biden arrived in NYC yesterday ahead of this week’s United Nations General Assembly. On Tuesday, Biden will address UNGA and convene the first ever presidential summit of the C5+1 Central Asian nations.

  • The attention paid to the C5 demonstrates the importance of the region, historically within the Russian sphere of influence and more recently a crucial pillar of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Biden will likely press Central Asian leaders to do more to prevent the flow of sanctioned goods flowing into Russia.
  • In a preview of Biden’s UNGA speech, White House NSA Jake Sullivan said Biden will deliver, "a vision for institutional reform at the U.N., at the World Bank, and elsewhere; with initiatives to deliver on infrastructure, on health, on climate, and other global public goods.”
  • On Wednesday, Biden will hold bilats with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - the first meeting with Netanyahu since he was returned to office and following months of White House objections to his judicial overhaul.
  • Biden will return to Washington on Thursday to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.
