Biden: US Will Continue To Impose Costs On Russia

US-RUSSIA

US President Joe Biden has issued a statement on today's Russian missile strikes on targets across Ukraine.

  • Note: Typo corrected in title.
  • Biden: "These attacks killed and injured civilians and destroyed targets with no military purpose. They once again demonstrate the utter brutality of Mr. Putin's illegal war on the Ukrainian people."
  • Biden: "Alongside our allies and partners, we will continue to impose costs on Russia for its aggression, hold Putin and Russia accountable for its atrocities and war crimes, and provide the support necessary for Ukrainian forces to defend their country and their freedom."
  • Biden's statement does not commit to any specific new measures but additional missile defence systems for Ukraine may be announced in coming days.
  • Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who also held calls with UK FM James Cleverly, Turkish FM Mevlut Cavusoglu, NATO Sec Gen Jens Stoltenberg and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell today.
  • After the call with Blinken, Kuleba said: "I raised a number of important issues, including the strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities, new sanctions on Russia, and holding Moscow accountable for its terrorism."
