Bipartisan Foreign Aid/Border Bill To Be Unveiled As Soon As Today

SECURITY

Manu Raju at CNN reporting that a group of rank-and-file House Representatives, "are pushing to release a bipartisan foreign aid package as soon as today," in the response to House Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-LA) decision to slow-walk the USD$95 billion package passed by the Senate.

  • According to Raju, moderate Republican Rep Don Bacon (R-NE) said the proposal would include military aid for Ukraine, but cut humanitarian and financial assistance. It would also include the "Remain in Mexico" border policy - a Trump era policy which was repealed by the Biden administration and included in the hardline House border package HR2.
  • Bacon: “We should focus on military aid. So we're putting out legislation today or a draft proposal that will focus on military aid but also remain in Mexico policy for the border because on our side of the aisle we want to see progress on the border."
  • The House is set to depart a scheduled two-week recess this afternoon so it is unclear when the chamber will next consider legislation.
