Blinken-Qin Speak On Phone Call

US-CHINA

US Secretary of State Blinken and China’s foreign minister Qin spoke earlier today, according to the China Foreign Ministry. During today’s discussion Qin said that the US should stop interfering in China’s internal affairs, which is not unusual. But he also said that the US should respect issues which are important to China, such as Taiwan, and should stop hurting China by using competition as an excuse.

  • Qin wants the US to meet China half way on the outstanding issues between the two countries and that it should also promote communication, stabilisation and cooperation. Blinken will continue to use diplomacy to bring up the US’ concerns with China. Communication is to stay open between the two foreign ministers.
  • Blinken is scheduled to travel to China on Sunday June 18, but there were no fresh updates (at the time of writing) as to whether this trip would still go ahead.
