Blinken To NATO-"China Actively Working To Undercut Int'nl Rules"

Some of the comments from US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's upcoming speech to the NATO foreign ministers' summit coming out on wires.

  • Press conference at 1300CET (0800ET, 1200GMT), can be watched by clicking here.
  • Blinken to say China is "actively working to undercut the rules of the international system", adding that "China's coercive behaviour threatens our collective security and prosperity".
  • But in a small olive branch to add that "the US won't force allies into an 'us or them' choice with China", and that "countries can work with China where possible".
  • Blinken's speech and presser come days after his first face-to-face meetings with senior Chinese officials in Anchorage, Alaska last week. The fiery rhetoric that emerged from both sides during the meetings did little to paint a picture of relations that will improve any time soon.
