Blinken: US Prepared Will Work China On Challenges Affecting Relations

MNI London: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking at a press conference following the US-ASEAN summit in Jakarta, has stated that the, "despite clear areas of disagreement the US prepared to work with China on challenges affecting china and US."

  • Blinken said, "the US will continue to responsibly manage relationship with China," but said in refence to recent cyber incidents, "any actions that targets the US government, companies, citizens is of deep concern."
  • Blinken yesterday held his second meeting in a month with China's top diplomat Wang Yi. The meeting, which the State Department described as "candid and constructive," lasted around 90 minutes and touched on "areas of difference and potential areas of cooperation," including Taiwan.
  • The last few weeks have seen a notable shift towards pragmatic but cautious cooperation between Washington and Beijing.
  • A notable, but relatively underreported, meeting between US assistant secretary of defense, Ely Ratner, and Chinese Ambassador Xie Feng took place at the Pentagon yesterday suggesting that even in defence, the most fractured aspect of the Sino-US relationship, a slow thaw may be underway.
