Bolsonaro, Scholz, Johnson Approval Up, Kishida Crashes

GLOBAL POLITICAL RISK

The latest update to Morning Consult's Global Leader Approval ratings shows a jump in support for Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

  • French President Emmanuel Macron's approval rating remains relatively low just over a month out from the first round of the presidential election on 10 April. However, despite a low approval rating France's two-round electoral system means he remains favoured to win a second five-year term.
  • Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's approval rating has slumped over the course of February, down seven points from 46% to 39% amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in the country.
  • Morning Consult Global Leader Approval Ratings: Modi: 74% (=), López Obrador: 63% (-2), Draghi: 59% (+1), Scholz: 45% (+3), Biden: 42% (+1), Sánchez: 41% (+4), Trudeau: 41% (=), Bolsonaro: 40% (+4), Morrison: 40% (-2), Kishida: 39% (-7), Moon: 38% (-2), Macron: 37% (+1), Johnson: 34% (+4).
