Bolsonaro Won't Contest Election Result, Won't Call Lula: Antagonista

BRAZIL

Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro will not contest the outcome of Sunday's presidential runoff, which saw leftist rival Lula beat him by a narrow margin, conservative news website Antagonista reported, citing the incumbent's representatives. However, Bolsonaro will not call Lula to congratulate him either.

  • Separately, Globo reported that lawmakers and ministers who wanted to speak with Bolsonaro after the result was announced were told that the President would not be meeting anyone, including his closest aides.
  • Brazil's Supreme Electoral Court chief Alexandre de Moraes had earlier played down the potential for election outcome being challenged, based on the conversations he had with both candidates before announcing the official result.
