Bounce In USDCAD Proving Only Corrective For Now

CANADA
  • USDCAD touches session lows of 1.324 having earlier risen on strong US data to a high of 1.3286 that ultimately failed to meaningfully clear firm resistance at the 20-day EMA of 1.3283.
  • The SEPH report for April was mixed (payrolls -25k allowing for the PSAC strike and the vacancy rate pushed lower, but fastest fixed weight Y/Y wage growth since July) but CAD nevertheless outperforms all other majors except for the AUD today after recent post-CPI underperformance.
  • Tomorrow sees key releases with monthly GDP for Apr final/May advance at 0830ET before the twin BoC surveys at 1030ET.
  • Recent increases in the pair have been deemed corrective with support eyed at 1.3190 (Jun 28) and ultimately the key 1.3117 (Jun 27 low) but a renewed push higher on dovish factors in those releases or strong US core PCE could open 1.3355 (Jun 15 high).
