Brexit Rumors Swirling

GILT SUMMARY

Gilts have traded weaker with yields broadly 1bp higher on the day and the curve close to flat.

  • Last yields: 2-year -0.023%, 5-year -0.028%, 10-year 0.298%, 30-year 0.875%.
  • The Dec-20 gilt future trades at 135.18, towards the bottom end of the day's range (L: 135.06 / H: 135.60)
  • The short sterling futures strip is 0.5-1.0 ticks lower in whites through blues.
  • Bloomberg today cited an anonymous source in saying that the UK was planning to quit Brexit negotiations by October 15 if there is no prospect for an acceptable deal.
  • The DMO earlier sold GBP2.5bn of the 0.375% Oct-30 Gilt and GBP0.75bn of the 0.125% Aug-41 linker. A further GBP134.149mn of the 0.125% Aug-41 Gilt was taken up through the PAOF.
  • The BoE purchased GBP1.473bn of medium-dated gilts with offer-to-cover of 1.57x.
