BRICS Leaders' Summit To Begin Tuesday

  • BRICS Business Council holds events today, ahead of the start of the leaders' summit tomorrow. Among the leaders who confirmed their in-person attendance at the conference are more than 30 heads of states, including all BRICS leaders other than Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as Iran's Ebrahim Raisi and Indonesia's Joko Widodo.
  • Speaking days ahead of the beginning of the summit, President Cyril Ramaphosa reaffirmed South Africa's "non-aligned position" and said that the country "will not be drawn into a contest between global powers." He added that South Africa supports the expansion of BRICS to create a more balanced global order.
  • EWN reported that Eskom "would implement varying stages of load shedding on Monday following a breakdown of some generating units."
