Broadly As Expected Building Permits

  • Building permits broadly as expected in April considering the volatility of the data, dipping -0.6% M/M after -9.3% M/M in March.
  • Non-resi permits continued to swing around. Looking through some of the noise, residential permits are sitting just off record highs, which with time should help take some of the heat out the housing market.
  • The largely as expected print sees little reaction in front-end Tsys or USDCAD, both on for a calm session so far with 2YY +0.3bps and USDCAD sticking to -0.15% on the day.
