Budget Committee Discusses Spending Plan

  • Finance Minister Zbynek Stanjura told lawmakers that pessimistic estimates suggesting that budget deficit might reach CZK250-400bn at the end of the year are wrong and "there is a pretty good chance that we will meet the planned deficit of CZK295bn." He noted that the state will receive round CZK46bn this year from the windfall tax, even as VAT collection is lower than estimated in the spending plan.
  • Parliamentary Budget Committee debates this year's spending plan from 08:00BST/09:00CEST, with Finance Minister Stanjura set to hold a press briefing after the committee discussion wraps up at 10:00BST/11:00CEST.
