Bulgaria-Serbia Gas Pipeline Could be Completed by Dec 10

The new Bulgaria-Serbia pipeline could be completed by Dec 10 according to Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov.

  • The Bulgarian 170-km Bulgarian pipeline section connecting Bulgaria’s grid with Serbia is ready for operation and the Serbian part may be completed shortly.
  • The pipeline with enable Serbia access to gas sources from Greece such as LNG or gas from Azerbaijan and provide potential for alternative supplies to Serbia in case of disruptions from gas via the TurkStream pipeline.
  • The pipe could also provide reverse flows allowing Bulgaria access to gas from Western Europe or the Adriatic Sea.
  • Late last month Bulgaria’s gas grid operator said it is possible that Gazprom may reduce natural gas flows via Bulgaria after Bulgaria’s introduction of the gas transit tax. A disruption to flows could affect supplies to Serbia, Hungary and Austria.
