Bullard Expects Two Rate Hikes Next Year (CNBC)

FED

St. Louis Federal Reserve President James Bullard has taken part in an interview with CNBC, reiterating his central view, in that he has pencilled in two rate hikes for 2022 (when he will be a voting FOMC member), with the moves set to come after the central bank has finished the wind down of its bond-buying program.

  • Bullard was also quick to note that his view is based on the current economic backdrop, with data dependence key. He said: "What we can do is assess the situation next spring and see where we're at, and at that point we can make a decision about raising the policy rate"…"Based on where I think we are today I actually have two rate increases penciled in for 2022...that could change by the time we get into the first half of next year in either direction really."
