Busy Day In Commons w/PMQs, Navalny UQ, Stmnts On COVID, Traveler Quarantine

UK

A busy day coming up in the House of Commons.

  • At 1200GMT (0700ET, 1300CET), Boris Johnson faces PMQs a day after the UK fatality total from COVID-19 crossed the 100k mark.
  • After PMQs around 1230GMT (0730ET, 1330CET), Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab is set to answer an urgent question from Sir Roger Gale (Con, North Thanet) relating to the potential for further sanctions being imposed on Russia following the detention of opposition activist Alexei Navalny.
  • Following on from the foreign secretary, Health Secretary Matt Hancock will deliver a statement on the COVID-19 pandemic, who in turn will be followed by Home Secretary Priti Patel delivering a statement that is expected to announce the imposition of hotel quarantines on travelers arriving to the UK from COVID-19 hotspots.
  • Following a story from the FT's Jim Pickard, it seems that those arriving in the UK from South America, Portugal, and South Africa and its surrounding nations are set to be forced into 10 days of quarantine in hotels at their own expense.
  • This policy has been criticised by Labour, which has argued for all international travelers arriving in the UK to quarantine in hotels.
