Cabinet To Discuss Minimum Wage, Fiscal Outlook

  • Prime Minister Petr Fiala's Cabinet may discuss a proposal to raise the minimum wage and the Finance Ministry's fiscal outlook at its weekly meeting this afternoon. As a reminder, efforts to reduce budget deficits have been high on the government's agenda this year amid the implementation of a contentious fiscal consolidation package and pension reforms.
  • Another opinion poll showed that support for the ANO party continues to rise. The Seznam Zpravy/Ipsos poll indicated that ANO could win 34% of the vote, while still having potential to grow. Its potential support (which includes people who at least consider voting for a party) has increased to 44%.
  • Czechia's anti-monopoly watchdog (UOHS) will prepare legislative proposals to allow for flexible reactions to spikes in food prices. The office's head Petr Mlsna said that the proposals will be unveiled in January and might include a ban on sales at "unreasonably high prices".
