CEE: Covid19 Daily Cases On The Rise Again

EMERGING MARKETS
  • The CEE region has experienced a rise in daily news cases in the past few days, following a sharp reduction in recent weeks, which could slow down the lift in restrictions that was originally planned by the governments.
  • In Hungary, even though already 3mil people have received at least their first vaccine dose, the 7D SMA of daily new cases has risen by 300 in the past three days back to 5,200.
  • Restrictions were ease last Wednesday despite the objections of doctors.
    • Business and services that have been closed since March 8 reopened,
    • Mandatory closing time for shops was extended from 7pm to 9.30pm,
    • Night curfew was extended by 2 hours to 10pm.
  • Professor Béla Merkely, the rector of Semmelweis University, recently said that some 5 million Hungarians will need to be inoculated to keep coronavirus case numbers constantly low in the country.
  • Based on the latest projections from PM Orban, 5mil people should be vaccinated (at least first dose) by mid May (one month from now), which is probably one of the major reasons the doctors were objecting an early lift in restrictions.
