Central Bank Governor Calls For Preserving Independence Of Israeli Institutions

ISRAEL

Israel's public broadcaster Kan reports that central bank Governor Amir Yaron this morning called on the government to respect and maintain the independence of Israeli institutions and only reform them in the atmosphere of consensus.

  • In a letter sent to the government and the Finance Committee alongside the Bank of Israel's report for 2022, Yaron wrote that "the existence of strong and independent institutions is essential for the stability and prosperity of the economy over time."
  • The Governor had earlier emphasised the importance of protecting the independence of the judiciary and warned against the adverse consequences of the government's "hasty" reforms, which are deterring foreign investment.
