Central Bank Speaker Docket Remains Frantic

Narrow ranges observed so far in what is a busy session for economic data; after rising for the fourth straight session on Wednesday the greenback has softened slightly, allowing high beta currencies to bounce slightly from yesterday's closing levels.

  • Data from Japan showed industrial production fell faster than expected, while retail sales also declined more than estimated. NHK has reported that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will lower the COVID-19 alert level by one notch from the highest level, with the decision set to be made by the COVID-19 panel later today.
  • There is plenty to focus on in the coming session, China's September manufacturing and non-manufacturing PMI and a speech from BoJ Governor Kuroda are due in the Asia-Pac session while later on Italian CPI, the US MNI Chicago Business Barometer and weekly jobless claims release are highlights Thursday. Central bank speaker events remain frantic, with Fed's Powell appearing again in front of lawmakers as well as speeches from Williams, Bostic, Harker, Evans and Bullard.
