Central Government Budget Balance Due At 1430BST

  • On the data front, central government budget balance figures for March will be published at 1430BST/0930ET, with analysts expecting a BRL 1.6bn surplus, vs. -BRL58.4bn previously. This will be followed by a press conference with Treasury Secretary Rogerio Ceron at 1500BST. In the rest of the week ahead, March current account figures will cross on Thursday, followed by March IP and outstanding loans data on Friday.
  • On a related note, Budget minister Tebet recently described the 2024 fiscal target re-evaluation as being done "month by month". She stated that the Government will have a clearer scenario in May, when a new reassessment of the 2024 budget will be carried out.
  • Meanwhile, Petrobras will disclose its 1Q24 output report after market closes today. On the political front, President Lula will have a meeting with Finance Minister Haddad at 2100BST, while BCB President Campos Neto will deliver a lecture at an event in Sao Paulo at 2230BST.
