CEOs Appearing Before House Hearing On 'Price Gouging'

10:30 ET/15:30 BST: A House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing titled ‘Gouged at the Gas Station: Big Oil and America’s Pain at the Pump’ is due to begin shortly.

  • CEOs appearing in front of the committee: Darren Woods (Exxon Mobil), David Lawler (BP America), Michael K. Wirth (Chevron), Gretchen Watkins (Shell), Richard E. Muncrief (Devon Energy), Scott Sheffield (Pioneer).
  • Committee Chair Frank Pallone (D-NJ): ‘We’re basically gonna hold the oil companies accountable. I mean, they’ve been price gouging, and they keep the prices artificially high. And we want to call them out.’
  • The hearing is part of a Congressional drive to compel energy companies to tackle rising energy prices. CEOs are expected to be grilled on the prospect of a 'windfall tax' on oil profits and a 'use it or lose it' policy proposed by President Biden recently to force oil production of federal leases.
