Chief Medical Officers Lower COVID-19 Alert Level From Highest 5 To 4

The chief medical officers of the four UK nations and the NHS England national medical director have all agreed to lower the COVID-19 alert level from the highest level of five to four across all four nations of the UK.

The lowering of the alert level comes as the UK continues its rapid vaccine rollout, and is a precursor to the gradual unwinding of lockdown measures that PM Boris Johnson announced earlier this week, beginning on 8 March with the reopening of schools. UK will likely have to move to level 3 before the later stages of the unwinding roadmap can be reached.
