CHINA-Diplos Meet For First LAC Dialogue Since 2019

INDIA

MNI (London) - Officials from China and India met in Beijing earlier today to discuss border affairs and proposals for disengagement along the disputed Himalayan border between the two nations, known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The 26th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) was the first in-person meeting between the two nations on the LAC since 2019. Since then, a number of violent skirmishes between troops of both sides have taken place in the mountainous border region.

  • The Indian Foreign Ministry stated the two sides "discussed proposals for disengagement in the remaining areas in an open and constructive manner,"
  • The disputed border continues to act as another source of tension between the Asian giants, alongside existing issues of economic competition.
