AUSTRALIA: /CHINA: Re: the recent souring of Sino-Australia trade relations in
recent days, it is worth flagging a couple of points from ABC articles over the
last 2 days:
- On the barley tariff front: "the tariffs, which grain groups said could total
up to 80 per cent, threaten the viability of the A$1.5 billion barley trade into
China. About 88 per cent of Australia's barley exports to China come from
Western Australia, and some growers in that state were now changing their
cropping plans mid-way through seeding."
- On the beef front: "one analyst has told the ABC the four meat works represent
35 per cent of beef exports to China, a trade that had been on track to reach
A$3.5 billion this year."
- So that would effect a ballpark A$5.0bn worth of exports.
- N.B. Australian exports totalled A$491.787bn (in SA terms) on a 12-month
rolling basis through March, just for scale in annual terms.
