China’s Aviation Sector Recovery Slows: Kpler

China’s aviation sector is showing a significant slowdown in recovery post-summer as demand is lagging pre-pandemic levels, according to Kpler via X.

  • This is despite a 4.5% increase in November airline seat capacity, Kpler said.
  • Domestic flights have become dominant, which has altered jet fuel demand patterns, Kpler added.
  • “In response, Chinese refiners are prioritising jet fuel exports, now 38% of clean petroleum product exports, a rise from last year's 31%. Utilization of 93% of oil product export quotas further underscores this strategic shift,” Kpler said in an X post.
