CHINA: China's external accounts are far less solid than in years past and
suggest that the yuan is by no means undervalued as the country's large current
account surplus previously suggested. With a much weaker external balance sheet,
the PBOC may have less control over the yuan than it has had over the past
decade, and pressure from the U.S. administration to reduce the bilateral trade
imbalance may heighten longer-term risks for facing the yuan.
