China’s LNG Imports Up 7.81% in Aug: GACC

China’s imports of LNG in August rose 7.81% on the month to 6.30m mt, according to OilChem citing The General Administration of Customs of China (GACC).

  • This represents a 34% rise compared to August 2022.
  • The rise was attributed to growing electricity consumption amid higher temperatures in South China.
  • Combined imports for the first eight months of 2023 were 45.52m mt, up 12.1% on the year.
  • Australia remained the top LNG supplier to China, with a volume of around 2.16 million t in August.
  • The price of imported LNG into China rose 2.87% on the month to 3,985 y/t, driven by rising spot prices globally.
