Chuck Morse Announces Challenge to Senator Maggie Hassan in New Hampshire

New Hampshire State Senate President Chuck Morse has become the second Republican candidate to announce a bid to challenge Sen Maggie Hassan’s (D-NH) seat in 2022.


  • Morse has said that his success in lowering state taxes and growing the economy make him a strong candidate to unseat Hassan. Morse is the second candidate, after retired Brigadier General Donald Bolduc, to enter the New Hampshire GOP primary race. Londonderry Town Manager Kevin Smith is also expected to announce a bid to challenge in the primaries.
  • Morse will file a Statement of Organisation on Wednesday and the specifics of his bid will be outlined in the coming weeks.
  • The makeup of the Republican primaries has been uncertain since popular Governor Chris Sununu (R-NH) declined to race against Hassan, instead choosing to seek reelection to the governor’s mansion.
  • New Hampshire is a key battleground state in the senate elections in November. Hassan looks likely to hold her seat but the GOP will be targeting a pickup.
