US DATA PREVIEW: Claims Seen Falling to 1.35M in Week Ended June 27
-------------------------------------------------------------------
* Economists are projecting a decline in first-time applications for
unemployment insurance to 1.35 million in the week ending June 27 from the prior
week's 1.48 million. That would take the tally of weeks that claims remained
solidly above 1 million to 15 weeks. Continuing claims are seen dipping to 19.0
million from 19.2 million in the week ended June 20.
* Market forecasts are looking for a strong rebound in employment for the month
of June (payrolls report will also be released at 8:30 ET Thursday), as
indicated by the decline in continuing claims between the May and June reference
weeks. But a sharp spike in coronavirus infections around the country has raised
fears of another round of economic shutdowns and a rebound in claims filings as
some workers are furloughed for a second time.
