CNB To Hold Presentation On Forecasts, Finance Ministry Considers Tax Changes

  • The CNB will present its economic and monetary policy outlook to market analysts at 10:00GMT/11:00CET. The Bank Board kept interest rates and its FX regime unchanged yesterday, while Governor Ales Michl played down market bets on significant monetary easing this year, noting that he sees the rate curve higher than priced by money markets. In its statement, the CNB said that it will decide between another stand-pat decision and a rate hike at the next meeting.
  • Bank Board's Karina Kubelkova told Czech public television that a strong exchange rate is helping the central bank tame inflation and bring it back to the target. Her comments echoed the message of Governor Ales Michl, who noted that inflation is a bigger problem than exports.
  • Hospodarske Noviny reported that Finance Minister Zbynek Stanjura is mulling a property tax hike to reduce the public debt. In an interview for Seznam Zpravy, Stanjura confirmed that his ministry will work on tax changes, which he is hoping could take effect from next year.
