COLOMBIA: Ministry of Finance Confirms 2024 Budget Cuts

COLOMBIA
  • Further details on the recently approved Colombia budget cuts, with the ministry of finance confirming that the COP 28.4tn cut comprises the COP20 trillion already announced earlier this year and an additional COP 8.4tn to address to address the current economic situation.
  • The cuts will reduce this year’s budget by 5.6% and are the result of a drop in tax revenue. Of the total, COP 18.2tn will come from cuts in financing and COP 10.1tn from a reduction in investment.
  • The MoF considered a larger COP 33tn cut, but opted for the smaller figure because of the need to respond to damage caused by recent extreme weather, according to Bloomberg.
