COLOMBIA: President Petro To Speak At UN General Assembly At 1400BST

COLOMBIA
  • Along with several of his regional counterparts, President Petro is attending the UN General Assembly today, where he is due to speak at 1400BST(0900ET).
  • On the data front, the calendar remains light today, ahead of August industrial and retail confidence figures tomorrow. This will be followed by August unemployment numbers on Monday, which will be the last data release ahead of the Sept 30 BanRep monetary policy meeting. As noted, the latest Bloomberg survey suggests that the central bank will deliver another 50bp rate cut next week to 10.25%, although Finance Minister Bonilla has continued to argue for a larger 75bp move. A full MNI preview of the meeting will be published later this week.
  • On the political front, there is still no sign that Congress and the government have been able to reach an agreement on the 2025 budget, and the market will remain focused on whether an agreement can be reached this week.
