Colombia’s Avianca Limits Sales amid Jet Fuel Supply Worry

JET FUEL

Colombia’s largest airline, Avianca, said it’s limiting ticket sales to curb jet fuel use, despite the government assuring that there was sufficient supply.

  • The airline said Aug. 26 that it was taking steps to conserve supply after distributors wanted that they would limit supply until the start of September.
  • The measures include adjusting itineraries, suspending the sale of some tickets, and stopping to refuel outside of Colombia.
  • Colombia’s government said that the supply of aviation fuel has normalised after airlines warned of shortages due to a refinery outage in Cartagena, Bloomberg said.
  • The refinery in Cartagena suffered a loss of power over a week ago, but is now operating normally, according to Ecopetrol.
  • Ecopetrol is also importing jet fuel and will be able to meet 100% of demand from Sep. 1.
