MNI POLITICAL RISK - Harris Prepares For Unscripted Events

US
  • Vice President Kamala Harris will soon be forced to go off-script for the first time in her short presidential campaign. Harris told reporters shortly after securing the presumptive Democratic Party nomination that she wanted to sit down for an unscripted interview, “before the end of the month” - that self-imposed deadline is four days from now.
  • On September 10, Harris and Former President Donald Trump are scheduled to appear on ABC News for the first presidential debate of the revised match-up. There has been some speculation that Trump could skip the debate but, considering Harris’ recent polling momentum, the debate is likely to go ahead.
  • Trump and his VP nominee, Senator JD Vance (R-OH), are moderating their language on abortion to reduce their political exposure to one of the most important wedge issues of the presidential election.
  • Harris has continued her tack to the centre by embracing a more hawkish position on border security and immigration.
  • Robert F. Kennedy’s withdrawal from the presidential race is unlikely to significantly impact the result of the presidential election.
  • White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan arrived in China today for two days of meetings with top Chinese officials on issues related to the bilateral relationship and international security.
  • White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said Gaza ceasefire talks will continue this week, rejecting reporting that the Cairo talks had broken down.
  • Poll of the Day: Harris has a 55% chance of winning the presidency, according to DDHQ.
