Core CPI Data On Tap, NBP's Duda Expects Scope For Rate-Cut Debate To Open Up After Summer

POLAND
  • NBP's Iwona Duda told Business Insider that the Monetary Policy Council will be able to discuss lowering interest rates when there is evidence that inflation is in a sustainable long-term downtrend, which may happen after the summer. The official said that the process of disinflation is clear and will be continued. She added that the process of reaching the inflation target will be gradual for most central banks in order to avoid risks to financial and macroeconomic stability, which will also be the case in Poland.
  • Asked which politician is doing best in the ongoing election campaign, respondents in an RMF FM/DGP poll pointed to opposition leader Donald Tusk (47.9%), his party colleague and Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski (26.8%) and far-right Confederation leader Slawomir Mentzen (24.3%). Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski confirmed that the election will likely be held on October 15, although the final decision sits with the President.
  • Poland's data docket is quite packed this week, starting with the release of official core CPI figures for June today at 13:00BST/14:00CEST. Consensus expects +11.1% Y/Y, in line with the estimates based on final headline CPI readings released last week.
