Late Corporate Credit Update: Risk Metrics Heat Up Late

Investment-grade corporate credit risk gained Monday, IG near mid-range for the session as stocks traded weaker: SPX eminis currently trading -45.75 (-1.17%) at 3855.5; DJIA -177.59 (-0.57%) at 31160.3; Nasdaq -254.5 (-2.2%) at 11381.97.

  • After slipping to the lowest level since June 10 last Fri, investment grade risk measured by Markit's CDXIG5 index gained +1.654 to 92.121; CDXHY5 high yield index at 98.780 (-0.571).
  • Outperforming credit sectors (tighter or least wide): Communications (+1.8), Energy (+2.4 ) while Consumer Staples, Industrials and Health Care debt risk gained an average +2.7.
  • Lagging sectors (wider or least narrow): Materials (+4.2), Financials subordinated and Sr both +3.8 followed by Consumer Discretionary (+3.5).
