Countries Agree To More Interaction Between Militaries

CHINA-RUSSIA

(MNI) London-Russian state outlet TASS reporting comments from the Chinese Defence Ministry following Defence Minister Li Shangfu's visit to Moscow. Ministry: "China and Russia agree to continue close high-level communication, improve mechanism of interaction between two militaries."

  • Ministry: "China and Russia reaffirm their firm support for each other in securing their core interests, resolutely opposed interference in internal affairs by external forces."
  • Earlier today, Shoigu stated to Li that "The coordination of our efforts in the international arena has a stabilising effect on the global situation and helps to reduce the potential for conflict," according to Interfax.
  • International focus on the closeness of the relationship between China and Russia in the security/military sphere remains high. The West has consistently warned China not to supply Russia with weaponry for use in its invasion of Ukraine.
  • Last week, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang stated that Beijing would not sell weapons for use on either side of the conflict, but this appears to have done little to quell concerns in the US and Europe, especially given the 'no limits' partnership declared between China and Russia.
