SOUTH KOREA: Country Wrap:  President Remains in Detention.

SOUTH KOREA
  • South Korean President Yoon Remains in Detention for Time Being (source: BBG).
  • Support rating for South Korea’s ruling People Power Party rose to 39% vs. 34%, surpassing that for the main opposition Democratic Party for the first time in 5 months, a Gallup Korea poll showed. (source: BBG).
  • A big week for data next week with : 21 JAN PPI, Early trade, 22 JAN Consumer Confidence, 23 JAN GDP.
  • Korea’s KOSPI is down today by -0.24% yet remains on track to finish marginally higher on the week.
  • KRW: like regional peers, the Won has had a quiet finish to the week virtually flat on the day but is on track to be over 1% better for the week.
  • Bonds:  unsurprisingly the bond market has performed well post the BOK press conference which left the door open to cuts this year.  The 3YR is the best performer today with yields down -3.5bps to 2.696%.
