Court Reviews Block Of Zuma's Parliamentary Bid, Eskom Extends Loadshedding Reprieve

  • The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said that the MK Party included former President Jacob Zuma in its list of candidates for parliamentary elections despite knowing that his earlier prison sentence prohibited from running in elections. The party has taken the IEC to court over the decision. The Electoral Court now has until April 9 to rule on the matter.
  • News24 reported that SARB Governor Lesetja Kganyago would like to appoint another member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) to avoid having to cast tie-breaking votes, which would be in line with his earlier comments.
  • Eskom confirmed that loadshedding will remain suspended until further notice, entering the 13th day without power cuts, the longest streak since the turn of the year.
  • South Africa's net reserves rose to $57.51bn in March from $56.65bn prior, with gross reserves up to $62.32bn from $61.65bn.
