Cuts Coal Imports Tariffs To Zero To Increase Supply

  • Ministry of Finance said in a statement that China will cut its coal imports tariffs to zero to increase supply.
  • The cut in tariffs will take effect on May 1 through March 31 2023.
  • China coal imports have been plunging in recent years (see chart) and could continue to fall in the medium/long term due to its decarbonisation drive and policies to boost domestic energy security.
