CZECHIA: Czech Citizens Vote In Regional & Senate Elections

CZECHIA
  • Polling stations in Czechia's twin elections, which will be held over the next two days, will open at 13:00BST/14:00CEST. Citizens will cast their votes in regional elections and the first round of elections for one-third of the Senate. The government decided to go ahead with the elections despite heavy floods that swept across the region earlier this week.
    • One-third (27 out of 81) of Czechia's upper house will be elected in single-member constituencies using a two-round system in this election. The second round will take place next weekend in those constituencies where none of the candidates obtained more than 50% of the vote, with two best candidates advancing to the run-off. As things stand, 73 out of 81 senators support the governing coalition.
  • Prime Minister Petr Fiala meets with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol after KHNP won the tender to construct a new nuclear plant in Dukovany.
