CZECHIA: Industrial PPI Inflation Quickens More Than Forecast

  • Budget negotiations are ongoing, with the Finance Ministry negotiating individually with each ministry during the summer holiday season ahead of drafting the spending plan. Denik N reported that new Minister for Science, Research and Innovation Marek Zenisek is pushing for a greater allocation for his department, but it may still be a smaller share of GDP than under the previous Prime Minister.
  • Czechia's industrial PPI accelerated to +1.7% Y/Y in July from +1.0% prior, beating the consensus forecast of +1.1%. Sequentially, prices in industry rose by 0.6% M/M despite expectations of a 0.1% downtick. Construction work prices rose by 1.8% Y/Y, while service producer prices were up by 3.5% Y/Y. On the other hand, prices in agriculture fell 3.7% Y/Y.
