CZECHIA: Labour & Social Affairs Ministry Seeks Public-Sector Wage Hikes

  • Hospodarske Noviny reports that the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs is pushing for salary hikes for 400,000 civil servants already this September by 7-10%, arguing that keeping their earnings at current levels could result in their exodus to the private sector. However, the plan for a CZK6.5bn injection into the public sector is rejected by the Ministry of Finance, which argues that the state cannot currently afford it.
