DA Warns Land Expropriation Bill Could Impact Land Rights, Investment

SOUTH AFRICA

Parliament discusses Land Expropriation without Compensation:

  • The DA's Dr. Annelie Lotriet says there is no need to amend section 25 of the constitution to allow for land expropriation without compensation. She says the Constitution 18th amendment bill falls foul of the constitutional test
  • She also notes that the proposed amendment changes the obligation of the equitable provision of land. This bill creates uncertainty on property rights and will affect investments.
  • EFF leader Julius Malema says they've proposed for state custodianship of land and it has been rejected.
